This page is the start of Mel's story: the part most people don't see. It's about seizures, about trying medication after medication to find what worked, and about reaching a milestone that took real strength to get to. It will keep growing as her story does.
For a long time, seizures were part of Mel's everyday life. They showed up without warning and made even ordinary days feel uncertain. Alongside that, Mel and her care team worked through one medication after another, adjusting doses, trying new combinations, and learning what her body needed.
That process took patience. Some medications helped for a while and then stopped working. Some came with side effects that had to be managed. Through all of it, Mel kept showing up: for school, for piano, for her family, and for herself.
Finding the right medication and dose took time, and it wasn't a straight line. But Mel and her team got there. Reaching one full year of stability is something to be proud of, and it's the foundation everything else on this page is built on.
I want people to know that having seizures and trying a lot of medications doesn't mean you stop. It just means you keep going until something works.
One year stable feels like a big deal to me, and I wanted to share it. There's more to this story, and I'll keep adding to it.
