Maintenance mode▾
When ON, the homepage (index.html) shows a simple "under maintenance" page to every visitor instead of the normal content. Every other page on the site (about, piano, teach, daycare, my day, quizzes, etc.) keeps working normally when visited directly — this switch only affects index.html. Takes effect immediately, no redeploy needed.
Off
Maintenance message (shown on the overlay)
Editable so you don't need a redeploy to change the wording. Portuguese fields are optional — leave blank to show the English text to PT visitors too.
These boxes always show real, editable text, either what you've saved before, or the original suggested wording if nothing's been saved yet. Edit as much or as little as you like, then click Save. To go back to the original later, just delete your text and retype it, or clear a box and save to fall back to it automatically.
Let visitors send a message while in maintenanceOn
When on, the maintenance screen shows a small "send a message anyway" form (email + note) so visitors can still reach Mel even though the homepage is down. Messages sent that way show up below.
Messages received during maintenance
PT / EN language toggle
Controls whether the language switch button appears on every page of the site. Off by default — turn on only if Mel uses Portuguese.
Site theme▾
Every page has its own ☀️/🌗/🌙 button that lets each visitor cycle through Light, Medium, and Dark for themselves, remembered in their browser. This setting only controls what a brand-new visitor sees the very first time, before they've ever clicked that button.
Delete PIN (Wish List & Goals)▾
When set, this PIN is required before any goal or wish-list item can be removed — prevents accidental deletions. Leave blank to use the word DELETE as confirmation instead.
Homepage projects▾
Add, edit, reorder, or remove the project cards shown on the homepage. Each project can have its own icon, description, and link, or no link at all if it doesn't have its own page yet.
Portuguese fields are optional — leave them blank to show the English text everywhere.
Profile photos▾
Pick a photo from the options below, like choosing a profile picture. Click a thumbnail to make it the live photo.
To add a new option: ask Claude to add the photo to the project, then pick it from the dropdown below and click Add — it'll show up here as a new thumbnail to choose.

How to set up user roles
User roles (admin vs user) are stored in Firebase under mel-the-winner/user-roles/{uid}.
To make someone an admin: sign in as them once, then go to Firebase Console → Realtime Database and set their UID to "admin" under user-roles/.
To create new users: go to Firebase Console → Authentication → Users → Add user.
